youtube channels #
all these youtube channels were great resources when i was taking care of my hair and growing it out. all of them struggled with hari loss or thinning to varying degrees.
the main takeaways:
https://www.youtube.com/@heatherkarra
- best hair results. she has insanely thick and long hair; struggled with hair loss
- closest hair type to my own
- scalp massage and red light is really important
- stress relief and an overall orientation towards self care is the most important
- a well balanced diet is important for hair growth
https://www.youtube.com/@selfmaxxer
- sunlight is important
- scalp massage is important; we need to massage out scalp tension
https://www.youtube.com/@invertage
- inversion introduces blood flow to the scalp and can reverse hair loss
- he recovered his hair from almost completely bald!
care and growth #
health #
- getting enough protein
- getting enough vitamins (e.g. through fruit and vegetable intake, supplements if dietary changes aren’t enough)
- if you lose a lot of body weight, your body will start shedding hair until your weight stabilizes
- get sunlight on your skin and scalp (vitamin d, red and near infrared light)
- TODO attach article
mechanical factors #
- satin (or rather, commonly satin-like polyester) bonnet and/or pillowcase for sleeping
- wearing protective hairstyles msot of the time, for long hair
- don’t rip through tangles. ripping your hair makes it shorter, duh
- i use a silicone scalp brush when shampooing.
- use scalp massage with fingers or hair brush. keep the fingers in one place and move the scalp around over the skull
hair care #
- i don’t use sodium lauryl sulfate shampoos
- i apply hair oil to my ends and scalp before washing (rosemary oil, castor/jajoba/avocado oil)
- i like shea moisture shampoo/conditioner, or VIORI shampoo/conditioner bars, or dr. groot shampoo!
